Beatriz Recari: Marathon Classic success for Spaniard
Spain's Beatriz Recari won a final-round duel with American Paula Creamer to win the Marathon Classic and secure her third LPGA title.
The pair started the day tied for the lead and three shots clear of their nearest pursuers at Highland Meadows Golf Club in Sylvania, Ohio.
They both carded three birdies over the first seven holes and were still locked together as they approached the 14th tee.
However Recari rolled in a 12-foot birdie putt at the par-three 14th to take the lead for good.
Both players then birdied the 16th, although Recari missed a six-foot birdie putt on the 17th before making a clutch five-footer for par at the 18th to seal the win.
Recari's five-under 66 gave her a 17-under total of 267, while Creamer, who won the tournament when it was known as the Jamie Farr Toledo Classic five years ago, signed for a 67 which left her one behind.
"It feels really good," Recari said. "I did a very good job at the beginning. I stayed calm. I was aggressive. When I felt comfortable I went for it."
Creamer said: "It's hard. I came out to win. Beatriz played great. What are you going to do? There's a couple shots out there I wish I could redo, but not many."
England's Jodi Ewart Shadoff closed with a 66 to share third place on 13 under with American teenager Lexi Thompson whose 67 included a hole-in-one at the 14th.
