On Sunday 10th February, the 10 players of the Trethorne Frank Wills Salver Team put up a very gutsy fight against a strong St Enodoc team in the semi final, eventually going down 4 – 1. The scoreline was not a true reflection of the match, with the largest margin of victory being 2&1, with 3 matches going the full distance.
The conditions at Perranporth were extremey tough, with very strong winds and heavy, squally showers. Considering the weather conditions, the golf played was of a very high standard. All matches were very much in the balance over the closing holes, and it was possibly St Enodoc’s greater experience of such conditions that gave them the slight edge, even though the result could ultimately have gone either way. The match scores were as follows (Trethorne first):
Jim Carswell & James Gardner lost to Kevin Brenton & John Pease: 2&1
Pete Hodgins & Daryl Shovel lost to Rich Matheron & Nick Evans: 1up
Simon Schofield & Andrew Dance lost to Rich Hawken & Rich Lawrence: 1up
Geoff Saunders & Keith Smith lost to Joe Combellack & Sam Jarvis: 2&1
Simon Cockle & Ben Bowen beat Keith Hawke & Jake Sanders: 2up
