"I would like to thank our outgoing Captain, Les Jewell, for all of the hard work and dedication he has put into the past year. His year as Captain got off to a flying start when his ability to choose a strong partner came up trumps when they won the first trophy of the year. Sadly, his golf went the way of the majority of club captains after that - but at least he got to touch the other trophies when presenting them!
Of the many positive things Les has brought to the club in the past year was to enter us into more CGU events, which has helped increase the profile of the club. We performed adequately in these events, but didn't exactly set the heather alight with our performances, but you have got to be in it to win it and participating in events of this kind can only improve the ability of those who play.
Again, I would thank Les for all he has given the club in the past year, and many years before that.
Oh Dear, it's my turn...
When Les invited me to be his Vice captain, I had to decide whether or not I could commit the time required for a year as vice captain and then as captain. In the end, it was phone call to my Dad which made up my mind to go for it. He pointed out that being selected for such a position was an honour and not something I should turn down. Now I wish I had not phoned my Dad!! I can only hope that I can live up to the expectations I have for myself, and that the position does indeed turn out to be one of honour.
As a club, we need to continue to endear ourselves to the CGU by entering as many events as we can find a team for. This includes Open events at other clubs and I hope to improve the communication of these and other events to our members. It is important to me that Trethorne is represented at these county events to spread the word that we are now amongst the best courses in Cornwall".
