A copy of the final letter from Messrs Thompson & Jackson relating to Trethornes' disqualification from the Frank Wills Salver in 2007 was issued to the Committee. Whilst issuing a veiled apology for the manner in which the matter was handled, the CGU still maintain that Trethorne did not follow the correct procedure relating to the use of buggies.
The Peter Peter Trophy needs to be re-scheduled for later in the year following cancellation on Saturday 29th March;
Membership renewal is ongoing. Currently we have 200 renewals and 26 cancellations. We estimate a renewal of 233 which represents an 80% renewal of the total membership. The Committee Levy will be paid when the renewal process is complete. Please note the levy will not be paid for members who have reciprocal long-term deals agreed prior to Paragon taking over the club or for junior members.
Carvery match meals will be £9.00 for the 2008 season.
All members should have received Questionnaires in the past few days. This is part of a wider initiative that has been undertaken with a local market research company, Cream Communications, who will be assisting us this year our marketing activity and the future development of the club.
Course Report
Greens
The greens have had a small amount of iron and seaweed applied to them, to keep there colour and to increase the density of the sward. All so the cutting height has remained at 5.5mm, the greens have taken the constant battering by the elements very well, if the ground and air temperature allow I intend on 6 inch needle tines so to allow some air soil gas exchange. Theses holes are so small there will be no damage or change to the playing surface.
Tees/Surrounds
All the tees have been feed with a 4.0.4 fe ferti to keep them growing and to keep some colour in the plant, also a deep aeration of 10 inches. The 5th tee has been re-turfed in the middle and has gone down very well with the roots taking hold straight away. The height of cut has stayed at 16mm.
Fairways
All the fairways are being cut once week at the height of 20mm so to keep a full and consistent sward of grass over the course, this month I intend on chain harrowing the fairways to help the new growth and allow for water to pass the plant easier. All the existing drains on the fairways have been deep spiked to allow for better water movement.
Rough
Has all been cut and in some areas we have reshaped it to make it more player and maintenance friendly the cutting height has remained at 36mm.
Trees
The trees on the left hand side of the 3rd fairway have been cut up and some taken out to allow more air movement across the 3rd fairway. Also the trees up the 4th have been thinned out to improve play and maintenance work.
Putting Green
The putting green has been moved, drains put in and power rolled, about ½ tonne of top dressing which has been put down and has gone in due to the rain.

Committee have raised health and safety concerns over the position of the new putting green, it is felt that people on the green may be injured by player teeing off on the first tee, John has taken Committees thoughts on board and will assess the risk.
Committee have asked John to consider putting a toilet on the course and to reposition the Lady’s tee on the 9th hole so Lady’s have the opportunity to play over the pond, JG to investigate the odour adjacent to the 6th tee.
John has welcomed both suggestions and has encouraged Committee and members to provide more feed back on the golf course, any members who have any ideas that would improve the course are asked to either contact a member of the Committee or to contact the Management directly, all suggestions will be considered.
Chris Brewer has been asked to provide a “layman’s” guide to the new handicap rules and publish them on the notice board, highlighting the effect on 5 day members.
